You'll get used to seeing alot more than that. But you do have very limited skills right now and staying under the radar is the best bet.
If I were you, I would try to find a Fire Station and see if you can find a fire axe. That would be a good first weapon. You won't be able to hit much with it at first, but at least you won't need to try to find ammo.
You can start scanning zombies with your DNA Extractor to start earning XP but be aware that some high level zacks will be able to tell exactly where you are after you have scanned them and moved because of a skill called Scent Trail. If you move at least 10 blocks away though, they won't be able to locate you.
There is a largish horde of zombies outside of Latrobe NT in Darvall Heights. You could scan the heck out of them and then move a burb away and they wouldn't be able to follow you.
You NEED to get the Free Running skill next. It will make your life alot easier.
Don't give up. It's really difficult as a new player but being a part of a group like the DHPD makes it easier.
